Lyle’s Pizzeria is a recent addition to the midtown Omaha dining scene, having opened its doors this April. This locally owned pizzeria and wine bar boasts a menu that focuses on fresh, simple ingredients and a small but impressive wine selection. Guests can savor hand-stretched sourdough pizzas, small plates, craft cocktails, and wine in a cozy atmosphere. Located in the old dry cleaners building at 52nd and Leavenworth Streets, Lyle’s Pizzeria is a neighborhood gem that is sure to delight locals and visitors alike. Early adopters are already raving about the unique toppings and flavors of the pizzas — plus the Gelato Sour and Dark Chocolate & Ricotta Cookie!
From the team behind Lola’s in Dundee, Fig. is a new café situated on the southeast corner of the the brand new Kiewit Luminarium. While the restaurant is an entirely different concept than Lola’s, they have the same focus on high-quality ingredients and sustainable sourcing. Fig. serves well-executed breakfast, lunch, and happy hour menus, as well as bakery items like sourdough bread and pastries. Plus, there is a simple and affordable kids’ menu with options like schnitzel strips, a cheeseburger, a turkey sandwich, and more. Adults can pair their meal with a glass of wine or beer, or opt for a non-alcoholic drink, like a fresh juice or seltzer. The owners have also formed a creative partnership with the Luminarium to explore science and culture through food, offering weekly adults-only nights where visitors can explore exhibits and enjoy educational programs focused on food and drink. Fig. is open at 10 a.m. every day except Tuesday, when the museum is closed.
Backyard Elotes is a new restaurant in town that focuses on the classic Mexican street food of corn on the cob, also known as “elotes.” Their traditional elotes are cooked and slathered in a mayo cream sauce and garnished with chili powder, Cotija cheese, and lime. Plus, Backyard Elotes takes it one step further by allowing customers to enhance it to their own tastes by adding a variety of sauces or crumbled chips. They also serve elote nachos made with roasted sweet corn, Cotija cheese, jalapeños, sour cream, Tajin, lime, mayonnaise, and Doritos, as well as elote cups with the same ingredients as the nachos, minus the Doritos and with the addition of crumbled Hot Cheetos. Backyard Elotes features Mexican Coke and a Picante Party hot sauce station, allowing customers to choose just the right heat for their food.
Goose 120 is a new Italian restaurant that opened its doors at the beginning of the year. It is owned by Restaurants Inc., which has been serving the Omaha community for over 25 years with its restaurants, including Stokin’ Goat, Twisted Fork, Stokes, and Taxi’s. Led by Executive Chef Brian Howard and Chef de Cuisine Marcos Mata, Goose 120 has an extensive menu that includes small plates, flatbreads, salads, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts. Notable dishes on the menu include prosciutto-wrapped asparagus, the Thundergoose salad, garlic butter burger, and lobster gnocchi. Goose 120 also offers catering and party rooms for up to 44 guests. Don’t miss happy hour every day from 3–6 p.m. and all day Sundays, when you can get discounted beer, cocktails, wine, and shareables!
Blue Sky Patio & Pickleball is a new concept that has quickly gained popularity thanks to the fast-growing sport of pickleball. The four-season climate-controlled patio is the perfect indoor/outdoor space with garage door windows for breezy summer days and overhead heaters for chilly fall nights. At Blue Sky, you can enjoy beer, wine, and creative cocktails, like house-infused margaritas and spiked slushies, which are perfect to fuel a pickleball match or to treat yourself while enjoying time with friends on the patio. Blue Sky has three different leagues based on each player’s skill level and what they are looking to get out of the league: Here to Win, Here to Play, and Here to Drink. While Blue Sky is not necessarily a “restaurant,” pickleball players can order food from restaurant partners inside the complex, like Noli’s Pizza and Cheeseburgers: A Takeout Joint.
Hacienda Real, a new Mexican restaurant located at 78th and Cass Streets, officially opened its doors in the fall of 2022. Owned by Aurora Curiel, who also owns two other locations in Lincoln, the restaurant boasts an extensive menu of authentic Mexican cuisine made with high-quality ingredients. Customers can enjoy classic dishes like burritos, enchiladas, and tacos, as well as more unique offerings such as picadillo burritos and chipotle enchiladas. In addition, the restaurant offers a section devoted to egg dishes, making it a great spot for brunch. The beverage menu is equally impressive, featuring 18 beers on tap and a daily happy hour from 2–6 p.m. — and don’t miss half-price tap beers on Mondays!
Coffee Society Cafe is an adorable health-forward coffee shop and cafe located in La Vista that opened its doors in early 2023. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., the shop offers a drive-thru as well as a spacious, bright interior decorated with feminine touches. The menu features high-quality, simple ingredients and gluten-friendly pastry options, with all sandwiches and salads made fresh daily. Coffee Society sources its beans and chai from Hardy Coffee Co. and emphasizes iced coffee and sugar-free options over overly sweet drinks — but the raspberry rose latte and blackberry vanilla latte are two of the shop’s signature options. While it may be classified as a coffee shop, the cafe offers a lengthy food menu, with breakfast plates as well as a variety of lunch sandwiches and salads. It’s the perfect place to meet up for brunch or lunch with a friend — or get some work done with your laptop or read a book.
Mexitli Restaurant, originally a food truck, has now opened its doors as a brick and mortar in downtown Omaha. With new items on the menu, expanding on their popular food truck menu, Mexitli offers authentic Mexican flavors that are a must-try for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Customers have raved about the delicious tacos, burritos, fajitas, and refreshing agua frescas. With the restaurant’s immersive colorful decor, upbeat music in the background, and outstanding service, Mexitli offers a unique dining experience in the heart of downtown.
