How to Celebrate Father’s Day in the Omaha Area This Year

Father’s Day is on June 16th and will be here before you know it! While we think dads should definitely be celebrated year-round, we aren’t going to pass up a chance to show them how much they mean to us.

While the big day is coming up fast — don’t worry! We’ve rounded up a list of some of our favorite dad-friendly activities. From hitting the golf course to spending the day at the spa, there are plenty of things you can do this Father’s Day in the Omaha area to show your appreciation!

Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Take a Bike Ride

Fathers Day in Omaha

There are several trails in Omaha that are ripe for exploring and a family bike ride is the perfect Father’s Day activity! Because biking is such a popular activity in the area, we even have a cyclist’s guide to the city, which includes the best bike trails, shops and rental options.

A couple of our favorite trails include the Iowa Riverfront Trail, where you can enjoy a scenic ride on the Iowa side of the Missouri River. And the 144th Street Trail, which spans through a series of residential neighborhoods and offers great views of Standing Bear, Zorinsky and Wehrspann Lakes.

Go Camping

Father’s Day happens to fall right smack dab in the middle of summer, so why not spend it enjoying the great weather? Our region offers plenty of opportunities for exploring the outdoors, but one of the best ways to take in Omaha’s natural beauty is by pitching a tent and spending the weekend basking in the outdoors! There are several amazing campgrounds within two hours of Omaha, including the Eugene T. Mahoney State Park which is located halfway between Omaha and Lincoln and is one of the most popular outdoorsy retreats in the area.

…Or Glamping

Or, if you’re looking for a more “indoors” outdoor Father’s Day experience, why not try “glamping?” You can do so at the Slattery Vintage Estates, only one hour from Omaha. Here, you can camp in a 12-by-14-foot tent atop a private deck with a porch that overlooks a picturesque vineyard. Inside, you’ll find full-size beds, dressers with mirrors, coffee service, tables and chairs, rugs and soft bedding. The tents are fully electric with lamps, lanterns, fans and heaters. Plus, Slattery Vintage Estates is planning a special Father’s Day grill out with delicious dad-inspired food available that day!

Play a Round of Golf

Fathers Day in Omaha

Omaha’s gently rolling terrain makes it a perfect destination for golfers, and thankfully, we have a number of lush, championship golf courses in the area. No matter what your dad’s skill level is, you’re sure to have a blast at one of our fantastic courses! Stone Creek is a high-quality, yet affordable, course that offers 27 challenging golf holes on perfectly maintained land. Another one of our favorites, Indian Creek, consistently thrills visitors with its abundant water obstacles, well-placed bunkers, and lush fairways.

Or Try Frisbee Golf

If the dad in your life isn’t a huge fan of traditional golfing, try frisbee golf instead! Not only is this unique sport a blast, it’s also completely free. There are local disc courses all over the Omaha area, all offering a variety of styles and levels of play. A couple of our favorites include Hummel Park, The Links at Lake Cunningham and Seymour Smith Park.

Go Swimming

Make a splash on your dad’s special day at one of Omaha’s public pools! The City of Omaha’s outdoor pools open on June 3rd this year and will offer free admission for dads (with one paid child admission) on Father’s Day. We have a full list of where you can swim in the area, but our favorites include Cryer Pool, where you’re welcome to take a dip or lay out by the water and work on your tan; Fremont Lakes, which encapsulates over 40 acres of land and nearly 300 acres of water for you to enjoy; and Fun-Plex Water Park, which is open all summer long and will provide non-stop fun for the whole family! If you head to Fremont Lakes, be sure to read up on the limitations due to flood damage.

Catch a Game

One of our favorite things to do during Father’s Day weekend every year is visiting TD Ameritrade Park for the Collegiate Baseball Championship. We are so proud to be the host city for this famous event every year, not only because of the nail-biting games, but also the festivities surrounding it. Don’t miss tailgating, a championship weekend tradition, and make sure to pay a visit to the Fan Fest, which is located just near the park and is a family-friendly festival packed with interactive games, food trucks, breweries, live music and more!

See a Show

Take your dad to see his most anticipated film of the year! Enjoy a classic movie-going experience at the Dundee Theater, Omaha’s longest-surviving neighborhood cinema. Or, for a more modern movie-going experience, head over to the Alamo Drafthouse. Alamo Drafthouse is a unique theater, with two locations in La Vista and Midtown, that offers everything from sing-alongs to food and drinks delivered right to your seat during the film!

Omaha also happens to be home to an amazing performing arts scene that you can enjoy during Father’s Day weekend. We just happen to be home to the largest community theater in the country, the Omaha Community Playhouse, the Blue Barn Theater, the Holland Performing Arts Center and the Orpheum Theater, just to name a few.

Go on a Self-Guided Brewery Tour

Fathers Day in Omaha

Omaha is home to so many incredible craft breweries, each with a different style and personality. Spend Father’s day trying to visit a few (or all!) local breweries that you haven’t tried yet. A self-guided brewery crawl is flexible and allows you the time to enjoy each space (and share a beer or two) with your dad. You can use our handy guide to plan!

Enjoy a Delicious Meal

It’s no secret that we’re huge fans of the Omaha food scene. It’s hard not to be when there are so many fantastic places to grab a bite to eat in the area. From farm-to-table eateries and vegan and vegetarian-friendly hotspots to upscale restaurants and casual, walk-in only joints — we’ve got it all! So no matter where you decide to take dad out to eat, you’re in for a treat.

If he’s a steak lover (we don’t blame him), you’re in luck! Omaha is known for its high-quality cuts, and you can enjoy one at one of the incredible steakhouses in the area. We also happen to have some of the best seafood around, even if we do live in a landlocked state, because many local eateries fly their fish in daily! Here are the best seafood restaurants and markets in town.

Head to the Arcade

The arcade isn’t just a kid’s dream come true — it’s fun for the whole family! Enjoy games, laser tag, Glow Golf, paintball, bowling and even a few roller coasters at a local arcade. We love the Amazing Pizza Machine, which is a 60,000-square-foot indoor restaurant and entertainment center full of things to do!

For a more 21+ arcade experience, head over to Beercade to hark back to the good old days. It’s located in the heart of the artsy Benson neighborhood and features 30 rotating craft beers on tap, a full bar, classic arcade games, pinball machines and skeeball.

Take Him to Get Pampered

Spa days aren’t just for the ladies — so why not take your dad to get pampered on his special day? Head over to Downtown Omaha Massage and set him up with a massage, facial or wrap. And with their “Two Relaxing” spa package, you can get some relaxation in together! Enjoy the sauna before enjoying your choice of wrap and massage. Afterward, feel free to settle in their calming sanctuary with some delicious tea and organic chocolate.

Happy Father’s Day!
