To help you stay organized and ensure a smooth transition, we’ve created a comprehensive moving checklist, starting at eight weeks before moving down to some crucial day-of reminders. From the early planning stages to settling into your new place, follow these steps to make your move hassle-free!

 

Eight Weeks Before Moving:

• Create a moving binder or folder to keep all important documents, receipts, and notes.
• Research and hire a reputable moving company or plan for a DIY move.
• Obtain estimates from multiple moving companies and compare their services and prices.
• Notify your current landlord (if applicable) and arrange for the return of your security deposit.
• Start decluttering and donate or sell items you no longer need.
• Begin researching schools, healthcare providers, and other essential services in your new area.

 

Six Weeks Before Moving:

• Start packing non-essential items and seasonal belongings.
• Purchase packing supplies such as boxes, bubble wrap, tape, and markers.
• Notify your utility providers (water, electricity, gas, internet, etc.) about your upcoming move and schedule disconnection dates for your current home or apartment.
• Inform your bank, insurance providers, and other important institutions about your change of address.
• If necessary, arrange for storage solutions for items you won’t be taking with you.

 

Four Weeks Before Moving:

• Notify the post office to forward your mail to your new address.
• Complete a change of address form with the USPS.
